CUMBERLAND ROAD BUS GATE

In September 2023, Bristol City Council installed a bus gate on the citybound lane of Cumberland Road, the only access road on and off Spike Island, which:

- prevents residents and businesses (and their visitors & service providers) from driving east towards the city & M32, necessitating  long diversions along already congested routes, via Coronation Road & Hotwell Rd
- increases car mileage, worsening traffic congestion and pollution
- negatively impacts the local economy, and the lives and livelihoods of residents & businesses

We started campaigning against the measure during the consultation phase in summer 2022 and have continued to ask Bristol City Council to review this measure, which is damaging to our community and our neighbours, and is contrary to the Council's own clean air goals.

We are asking for:

- review of data on bus usage and air quality, being used to justify the measure

- access for residents and businesses to our homes and workplaces

We continue to engage to try to find a solution that will support the needs of residents and businesses, as well as the objectives of the Council.

It helps our case when we are able to demonstrate how the measure is negatively impacting residents and businesses, so please add some details in the Comments section of our Petition.
